Compare tech deals beyond the headline discount

Technology offers are easier to compare when you decide what the device must do before searching. Write down your budget and two or three essential requirements. This gives every deal a useful test: does it meet your needs at a total price you are comfortable paying?
Check the exact model
Similar names can cover different versions. Match the model, storage, connectivity and included accessories when comparing listings. For a phone, check whether the listing is for the handset or a service plan. For headphones, check the connection type and the devices you intend to use them with.
Read the condition and contents
Check whether the item is described as new, refurbished or used. Read what the retailer says about its condition, included cables, charger and support. Do not treat two differently described items as identical just because the photographs look alike.
Keep recurring costs separate
If an offer involves a subscription or service plan, note the upfront payment, recurring charge, stated term and any conditions attached to the promotional price. Compare those separately from a one-off product purchase. Avoid turning a simple accessory search into a larger commitment you did not plan.
Run a complete-basket comparison
Include delivery and any accessory you actually need. A missing essential cable may change which option suits you. Check that a voucher applies to the exact model and condition, then confirm that the retailer shows the expected reduction before placing the order.
Make a shortlist you can explain
For each option, note the model, condition, contents and final cost. Keep the two or three offers that best match your requirements. Choose on that basis rather than a large percentage alone.
